Reconnecting with Your Intuition

Intuition is understanding, knowing, without conscious reasoning. It is a direct line to our life force, and also to divine intervention. It is a way for that most potent of senses, our sixth sense, to be accessible. It is about using your instinct, not impulse. Have you ever felt like you just knew something was wrong? Have you had a good feeling about a person even though you only met them for the first time five minutes ago? That’s all intuition. We are born with it, each and every single one of us.

Intuition and intuitive responses have always existed in humans. Have you heard of the term fight or flight? That’s intuition! It has developed in us over centuries; from our ancestors seeing a predator and running away to our modern selves not feeling quite right about a business deal. Intuition determines whether we fight, or take flight. It is all caused by a chemical release of hormones in the brain which are triggered by stress, like having to make a decision about something. Your brain registers stress and releases cortisol and adrenalin, which can have a physical effect. Your heart rate increases, which can cause shaking hands or flushed cheeks as the blood pumps faster through your body. This is not a bad thing! Your body is reacting appropriately. How you deal with the situation depends on you and your ability to listen to your intuition.

Sometimes we can feel as though we are not as intuitive as others, and there is a simple cause for this blockage:

Our brain.

Our  brain is divided into two hemispheres: left and right. The left side of our brain is analytical and logical. The right side is creative and emotional. Intuition comes from the heart, and the emotional right side of our brain. The moment you have an intuitive thought or response, the left side of your brain has already started to reason it, to find an explanation as to why you suddenly feel chills or uneasy or extraordinarily confident. This can dull down the intuitive response and most of the time will make you ignore it altogether. The more you tune in to your inner guidance and the more you start instinctively responding intuitively, the quicker your brain will learn that it is an appropriate response and the less resistance you will feel from the left side of your brain.

Following your intuition is easy. The easiest way to tell if you are listening to your inner voice, your gut instinct, is if it feels right. It really is that simple. Have you ever made a decision you instantly regretted? That’s because it was the wrong one. Your inner guidance, your intuition, is never wrong. Don’t doubt yourself, or your ability to make the best choices for yourself in your life.

You already know all the answers. All you have to do is listen.
